Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments to achieve the smile of your dreams. Our experienced team will be able to help you decide if this treatment would work best for you.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth stains fall into two groups: extrinsic stains that are only on the surface of your teeth; or intrinsic stains that extend far deeper in the dentin (the layer beneath the enamel). The extrinsic stain can be removed by polishing the teeth and with the aid of some whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes. However, the only way to remove intrinsic stains is by using teeth whitening agents. In most cases, these can restore the whiteness of your teeth.

Can Teeth Whitening Kits Treat All Stains?

Professional Teeth whitening does not just remove extrinsic stains that are only on the surface of your teeth, but also intrinsic stains that exist far deeper within the cracks of the enamel and into the dentin (the layer beneath the enamel). The extrinsic can be removed by teeth whitening toothpaste and mouthwashes. However, as stated above, the only way to remove the unsightly intrinsic stains are using teeth whitening agents. They can restore the whiteness to your teeth; however, it is always best to discuss these options with your dentist, or you can risk damaging your teeth.

How Long Will Teeth Whitening Take?

At the first appointment, the dentist will conduct a thorough dental examination to determine whether whitening is the best treatment option for you. If so, impressions will be taken and custom trays made to fit your teeth. This ensures that the whitening gel is applied perfectly and safely to your teeth every time.

It is usually recommended that you use the bleaching trays for 90 minutes to 2 hours every day for a period of two weeks, depending on the colour and severity of the staining of your teeth. Please speak to your dentist if you have any questions or concerns.

At Albion Dental Care, our teeth whitening process always begins with a thorough dental examination to determine whether whitening is the best treatment option for you. There are some intrinsic stains that don't respond well to our whitening gels. If we determine that teeth whitening is a good treatment option for you, we will take impressions of your teeth and custom trays are made. These trays fit perfectly unlike the stock trays found in whitening systems purchased online. We will then show you how to load the whitening gel into the custom trays and how to apply them to your teeth. Typically you will wear the whitening trays for up to 2 hours every day for two weeks. For optimal results we recommend adhering to the instructions given to you by our team.
