Dental Crowns & Implants
Dental crowns and bridges are used to restore the look and function of damaged teeth making them stronger while appearing natural. They are needed for teeth that have been structurally compromised, either from decay, damage from an external source, or weakened by a large filling. Crowns and bridges are a great way of restoring the function of your teeth and the look of your smile. If you have a damaged tooth it is best to visit the dentist as soon as possible to avoid more extensive treatment. It also increases the chances of your retaining your natural tooth which would be our goal.
Dental Crowns
A crown is a full coverage restoration that is commonly referred to as a "Cap." A crown is used to restore the form and function of a structurally compromised tooth that is weakened by previous large fillings, decay and trauma. Crowns are made of porcelain and high strength ceramic materials, and when placed help to maintain the structural integrity of the tooth. Each crown is colour matched to your own teeth and so looks as natural as possible. However, occasionally gold is used for teeth at the back of your mouth if the crown requires additional strength.
What To Expect From Your Visit
Crowns usually take two visits. The first to prepare the tooth, take impressions and to place a temporary crown. The second visit is when the crown is permanently cemented.
Implant Crowns
Crowns can be used to restore implants that have been placed in the jaw when replacing a missing tooth. They are either made to screw onto the implant with a titanium screw or less commonly the are cemented onto the implant.

Dental Implants
A dental implant is a great way to replace a missing tooth/teeth. An implant is made of Titanium and replaces the root of the extracted tooth. The patient is referred to a Specialist Surgeon and the implant is screwed into the bone. Once the bone has fused onto the implant, impressions can be taken at Albion Dental Care to have a crown made which is then screwed into the implant.
Dental implants are often a better alternative to partial dentures and bridges particularly when there is a single front tooth missing. An implant Crown is the closest restorative alternative to a real tooth.
However, it can take between three to six months to replace an extracted tooth. During this time, the patient usually wears a temporary partial denture if a front tooth is involved.
Implants are also used to hold a denture in place, particularly a lower full denture which some patients may otherwise experience difficulty wearing.
